The Admin Craftsman
I am the Admin Craftsman, a title that reflects my dual life spent both behind the glow of a computer screen and in the tangible world, crafting projects with my hands. Over the years, I have honed my skills in system administration, but my passion extends beyond the digital realm.
One of my recent projects was creating a 7-foot tall monarch butterfly enclosure for my children. This project not only provides a safe haven for these beautiful creatures but also serves as a living classroom. My kids learn to care for the plants that sustain the butterflies and understand the importance of protecting them from predators. Watching them engage with nature has been incredibly rewarding.
In the digital space, I wrote a series of PowerShell scripts designed to simplify the setup and configuration of Minecraft servers. This allows my children to build and explore in virtual worlds, just like the creators they admire. It’s a blend of technology and creativity that sparks their imaginations.
Additionally, I ventured into 3D printing by designing a hydroponic grow tower. This project was an opportunity for my family to learn about plant needs and practice self-sufficiency by growing our own fruits and vegetables. It’s a small step towards sustainability, and the joy of harvesting our produce is unmatched.
Lastly, I developed a series of scripts to address gaps in commercially available tools like Quest ODM and BitTitan, specifically for migrating Microsoft 365 tenants. This work not only enhances my professional skills but also contributes to the broader community of IT professionals facing similar challenges.
Through these projects, I embody the spirit of the Admin Craftsman, merging technology with hands-on craftsmanship, and inspiring my family to explore and learn in both worlds.
